Uhuhuh

I was in a caravan (a Sprite Musketeer) in a caravan park in the Peak District listening to John Peel (on a radio that I can still see in the kitchen) when he mentioned that they were getting news from America that he'd died.

Where were you when you heard that Elvis had one too many quarter pounders with peanut butter and banana relish?

A caravan is a trailer...right?

Reading that first paragraph (without having read the title), I was trying to work out why Peel was announcing his own death...

Anyway, I was 5, and I remember standing outside the living room as my parents watched it on the telly. I do remember it being a big deal, even though I'm not sure I really appreciated who Elvis was back then.

Strange thing is, I don't remember Lennon's death at all, and that was a few years later when I should have been more aware. But my parents are older, and Elvis probably meant a lot more to them than the Beatles. (30 years on, the same now applies to me.)

Apologies, but I appear to have written an entire blog post here... which I might now nick and post for myself!

Jed, yes a caravan is what you'd call a trailer. Over here you wouldn't want to live in a trailer unless you were intent on a very long journey without paying the fare.

Dave, occasionally

Rol, no need to apologise. Coincidentally, my parents are older than me too.

Can't remember where I first heard it but I do remember wondering why there was such a big hoo-ha over the death of somebody that nobody in our crowd had even met, let alone knew. Ok, so there would be no more songs or films but life goes on...

Still don't fully understand this idol thing.
